The club was formed in 1996 as Findlay Soccer Club. At that time travel soccer teams were asked by their leagues and OYSAN to form a club from within which travel teams could be fielded. Prior to this time, travel teams had been run by individual coaches in Findlay since the early 1970s. After many conversations, the local leaders in travel and recreational soccer decided to manage the travel teams through HSA. The experience and organizational structure of the recreational league was viewed as a great asset for the formation of the travel club. Everyone felt this was a "win-win" situation for both groups. HSA would be able to offer the travel teams their support and governing structure knowledge, fields, and equipment. The travel teams’ coaches would be able to offer their experience and knowledge to aid in the development of recreational players and coaches.
In 1997 the travel teams officially became a part of HSA. In the bylaws this is referred to as the competitive division of Hancock Soccer Association. The competitive teams would be affiliated with and registered through USYSA competitive leagues. The HSA Constitution and Bylaws were amended to reflect the merger of the two formerly separate entities. Several new Board positions were created as a result of the restructure. The new HSA Constitution and Bylaws were unanimously approved by the HSA membership, and went into effect January 1, 1998.
The first open tryouts for Fall 1998 - Spring 1999 competitive teams aged U-9 and above was held in June of 1998 at Emory Adams Park. There was a very large turnout of potential new competitive soccer players at these tryouts and several new competitive teams were formed.
Today, the club is known as Pacesetter South and it is the travel soccer (competitive) division of the Hancock Soccer Association. The club officially became affiliated with the Pacesetter Soccer Club out of Sylvania, OH in May of 2016. The affiliation was made to help improve upon our player development process and attract the best players in the area to the club.
Currently, Pacesetter South has youth playing on boys and girls teams in the U-8 through U-14 age groups, but we are adding teams at the high school level for players in the U15 through U18 ages. These teams participate in several leagues, including NWOYSL and the Ohio North State League. Depending upon the age group, teams will participate in several competitive tournaments each season.
Pacesetter South continues to evolve and change in order to meet the soccer needs of the Findlay and Hancock county area youth. One of these changes is that the club has begun to hire professionally licensed coaches and trainers for many of the teams. The intent is to provide the youth playing on the competitive teams the opportunity to be exposed to coaches well versed and educated in the game, which hopefully will result in improving the abilities of the players.
